When should I arrived in Nepal?
The training begins on the First and
Fifteenth of each month. So it would be
better if you could arrive a day earlier
of the above dates. Our representative
meets you and takes you to the
hotel. You are welcome if you would like
to arrive few days earlier. But
you have to pay for your own
accommodation if you arrive before the
programme start.
Do Staff come to the airport to
pick me up?
Yes, our representative will be there to pick you
up at the airport with a placard.
But don't forget to give prior
information about your arrival
(flight details).
What types of training will i receive ?
You will be provided Nepali Language
Training and cultural training including
rural norms and values you need to learn
during your stay.
Does Volunteer Himalaya provide any
financial support?
Unfortunately Volunteer Himalaya is not in
position to support you financially.
Where will I have to stay during the
training period?
During the first phase you will receive
training in Kathmandu. During the second
phase you will have to stay at Godawari
village near by Kathmandu valley with a
Nepalese family.
How much money do i need?
It is difficult to give an exact amount.
It depends on the duration of your
stay and additional activities
entertained by you (shopping, travelling,
telephone, internet, club etc.). But
life in the villages is very cheap
compared to town areas and moreover Volunteer
Himalaya provide your accommodation during
our programme as detailed before.
How can i ensure my place in your
programme?
After getting your flight details your
place will be ensured in our programme.
What kinds of things do i need to bring?
Sleeping bag, hiking boots, flip flops,
fleece jacket (during winter), water
proof jacket (during summer), sarong,
mosquito repellent/net, sun cream, water
treatment tablets, flash light, pen
knife, books about your country. You
can, however, buy many of these
essentials in Kathmandu.
Do i need to prepare myself for teaching
english before my arrival in Nepal?
It would be helpful for you to brush up
on your grammatical knowledge. Any
grammar books and teaching materials you
could bring would also be very useful,
such as worksheets, reading books, art
materials, games, etc.
Do I need to speak English to join the
programme?
Yes, English is essential for volunteers
but if English is your second language
that is also ok.
Is there an age restriction for the
programme?
Yes you must be above 18 and of sound
health.
Is it safe
to volunteer in Nepal?
Yes Nepal is generally a safe
destination for volunteers and other
visitors despite political instability.
Tourists are rarely targeted in any
attacks. Volunteers should keep up to
date with news reports prior to arrival.
What kind of immunization/vaccines do i
need before coming Nepal?
Diptheria, Tetanus, Hepatitis A and B
and other preventive care is essential.
Consult your local health practitioner.
Do I need travel and and medical
insurance?
Yes, we strongly recommend that you
purchase cover.
